What’s a yoga session without sweating your palms out?
You must clean yourself right after the workout to save yourself from rashes or other skin issues, right? Well, what you don’t know is your yoga mat is already playing a role in making that happen. When you sweat on the mat, it absorbs everything and becomes the hub of gruesome germs. Not cleaning it properly can lead to all the problems you have been trying to avoid.
After each fitness pilates workout, our instructor guides everyone to clean their yoga mats at least once a week. The more time you take cleaning them, the more you invite the germs to attack you.
If you’re looking for a proper method to clean your yoga mat, here’s how you should do it.
Regular Yoga Mat Cleaning
It’s the easiest to do. You need two cups of water and a dishwashing liquid to clean the yoga mat from the front and back. You can make a spray of this mixture in a bottle, so it’s handy whenever you need it.
After spritzing the mixture on the mat, clean it with a soft cloth and let it dry. Cleaning the mat regularly will save you from deep cleaning your yoga mat every once in a while.
Deep Yoga Mat Cleaning
If you’re witnessing a foul smell on the mat or see stains on it, it’s probably time to deep clean your yoga mat.
You have to check if your yoga mat can be cleaned with your hands or if you need a washing machine to do it. Find something a little harsher than dishwashing soap to deep clean the mat.
Make a mixture of the cleaning liquid with water and rinse the mat with your hands or in the washing machine. Remember to always air dry the yoga mat.
