Class Review: Bikram Yoga @ Bikram Yoga Williamsburg

by Carolyn M - Intermediate: dance/fitness

Bikram Yoga Williamsburg, Brooklyn
CLASS LEVEL: OPEN

So I traveled across the river to take yoga with the hipsters at Bikram Yoga Williamsburg. Class Review: Open Yoga @ Jivamukti Yoga Center

by Carolyn M - Intermediate: dance/fitness

Jivamukti Yoga Center, Inc.

CLASS LEVEL: OPEN

This is a good class for all levels because you have the option of modifying the poses to correspond with your level. It is challenging but doable with committed focus. As I set my mat, towel, wooden block, wool blanket, and chant book down in the candlelit room, honking horns were my only reminder that I was still in Manhattan. The narrow room that held forty students (nine male, thirty one female) faced a stained glass window outlined with pictures of gurus. With everyone settled the instructor directed the class to a page in the chant book and explained the message of this chant dealt with the necessary relationships of life (family, work, partners, etc.). The mystical singing mixed with the aroma or lavender served as a soothing foundation[...]
