As a dancer, I found jumping on the trampoline vastly different from jumping on the ground. It took me some time during class to adjust to this new sense of timing. The following day in a dance rehearsal, I needed some time to reacclimate to jumping on the ground again. It was well worth it, though!

I feel that people who seek a strong core and deep upper body toning would benefit from the physical demands of this class as well as enjoy the the beautiful artistry of the silk work. Instructor Heather Hammond met, challenged, and inspired each student at her individual skill level. The class atmosphere was filled with a concentrated energy that facilitated enthusiastic learning.

Silks is far from being a traditional workout or exercise class, but it is definitely a class that will tone your whole body, especially the upper body and abs, while also providing some cardio. Heather’s class was one of the most unique, well-taught, and well constructed classes I have taken.

This class is a great calorie-burner that strengthens and tones the major muscle groups utilized in a ballet class. For those who would like to work towards taking a beginning ballet class, I would recommend a few weeks to a month of Body Ballet classes first. This way strength and an understanding of some basic ballet exercises are already under your belt.

Covenant Ballet Theater’s Ballet Fit class is a unique hybrid of pilates, yoga, calisthenics and floor barre with an aim to build strength and mobility throughout the entire body. Our instructor, Helene Parker incorporates some basic yoga such as breath, child’s pose and downward dog with some pilates principle exercises like bridges, spinal extensions and sidekicks with an innovative gentle approach.
